The students are given hands on clinical training in the attached Kovai Medical Center and Hospital.
This is a state of the art 350 bedded, multi discipline, super - speciality hospital. Students have excellent exposure to all varieties of patients in the departments of Neurology, Neuro - Surgery, Orthopaedics, Plastic Surgery, Cardiology and Cardio - Thoracic surgery, CCV, ICU, NICU and CTU - HDU.
The KMCH College of Occupational Therapy is the only Occupational Therapy College in the whole of Tamilnadu which is attached to a full - fledged department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
The students are posted to several other institutions like Institute of Mental Health (Chennai), Coimbatore Orthopaedic Rehabilitation Center - Coimbatore, Naveen Hospital (Psychiatry) - Coimbatore, Kasturiba Deaddication Center - Coimbatore, Families for Children (Kovai) and others. This gives the students a wide exposure to a large variety of cases, different methods of treatment and institutional setups.
During internship programme the interns are posted at several hospitals and Institutions in India & abroad for varied clinical exposure as in Indo American Hospital, Brain & Spine Center - Trivandram; Kusumagiri Mental Hospital - Cochin; Spastic Society of Karnataka - Bangalore, Hosmat Hospital & St.John's Mission Hospital, Bangalore; Coimbatore spastic trust; Al west Hospital - Dubai; Shanta Memorial spinal Injury Rehabilitation center & Open Learning systems - Orissa. C.P.Hence Vellore and Leprosy Center - Karigiri.
Professional & Social Welfare Activities:
Various continuing Medical Education programmes, workshops and camps are part of B.O.T curriculam, which are part of conducted in association with KMCH and other Organisations.

The Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation of the Kovai Medical Center and Hospital is the only one of its kind in South India. It offers comprehensive Medical Rehabilitation care and comprises of three divisions, namely Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy and a Prosthetic and Orthotic workshop.

The department is equipped with the latest, state of the art equipment and is staffed by fully qualified Physiotherapists. Therapy
is provided for all types of Chronic and acute pain disorders including back and neck pain, stroke(hemiplegia), paraplegia,
post-traumatic and post surgical conditions, Cardio - Respiratory disorders and various other Orthopaedic and Neurological conditions.

Staffed by fully qualified Occupational Therapists and equipped with specialized devices, this department deals primarily with
the functional retraining of patients. Therapy for children with Cerebral Palsy, Mental retardation and other neurological
conditions, with the aim to make them fully independent, is one of the specialized services offered by the department. The
Occupational Therapist assesses the patient's vocational potential, and if necessary, suitable job modifications are also
prescribed.

Other conditions include, functional retraining after stroke, Nerve injuries, Plastic surgery and burns. Fabrication of special
adaptive devices, thermoplastic, customized, molded, splints for various conditions, forms part of the departmental activities.

PROSTHETIC AND ORTHOTIC SERVICES (ARTIFICIAL LIMB CENTER)

It is the only unit in the southern region, fitting the latest , high-tech, endo-skeletal limb systems - 'ENDOLITE', a product of
Blatchford and sons, U.K. The limbs are made from carbon fiber composite and are extremely durable, light - weight,
cosmetically appealing and most importantly, have excellent gait biomechanics.
The workshop manufactures all other types of artificial limbs, upper and lower extremity orthotics, customized, prescription
splints and braces including special footwear. The patient is not only provide with a splint or artificial limb, but is given full
training in the use of the device.
